About

Hello!

Thank you for stopping by!

My name is Kate and I live on Wurundjeri country, in the beautiful Yarra Valley in Victoria, Australia.

I am an avid crafter with a passion for learning new crafts and also forgotten crafts. I love knitting, sewing, spinning and making things with my hands.

I care deeply about nature and am a very big worrier about our planet. My happy place is in nature, especially bushwalking and camping. Everything I do with Valleymaker carries a conscious decision about environmental impacts and limiting damage to our precious Earth. I work without chemicals, use tank water, solar for my electricity and only sell nylon and superwash free yarns from mills that have share similar values to me.

Valleymaker began as an obsessional investigation into botanical dyeing. I became completely hooked ten years ago and really haven’t stopped since! Growing my own dye plants, using weeds from my local area and working with natural fibres is an extremely satisfying and rewarding process.
